I remember when I was a young boy, I saw Monkey Island 2 had hit the local computer store. I immediately headed home to negotiate funding for the game. I got lucky and rushed to buy the game with a big smile on my face. Next several days passed in a joyful bliss as I immersed myself in a fastastic world of pirates, monkeys, spitting contests and philosphical questions on whether X marks the spot. Monkey Island 1 and 2 have remained my favorite games of all time. Of course I played the Monkey Island 1 Special Edition when it came out and now Monkey Island 2 Special Edition is out too! Woot woot! All the warm memories came rushing back. Nice new graphics, voice acting, funny optional commentary and you can even easily switch between the old graphics and the new. The new user interface is a bit confusing but I’m willing to forgive that. Now excuse me, Guybrush and I have some spitting to do.

I’ve been thinking about writing some fanfiction. For example playing the game Mass Effect 2 inspired some ideas. I would like to write something about the quarians. But the problem with fanfiction for me is that I worry about correctness. Did I write the details correctly? Was there some tidbit I didn’t know that totally messes with my story’s credibility? You really need to be an expert on the subject to write a proper story. That’s how I view it at least. I’m not big on research though. I prefer to make stuff up. But ready worlds and characters do offer a lot of potential if I stop worrying too much about the details. Of course I could just start writing something and later check all the details. That way I’d at least have written something which in my view is a lot better than writing nothing.
While I ponder all this, here’s a lovely quarian for you:

Ahoy from the midnight seas! Continuing on the pirate theme, I just downloaded Puzzle Pirates again. It’s a fun game to play once in a while. Basically you can do all the macho pirating things like pillaging, having fun with wenches and knitting, but you do it all in little puzzle games (except no knitting). Good for keeping even the battle worn scallywag’s mind sharp. It’s free too! Can’t say I like all the puzzles but I do like bilging. It’s like playing bejeweled (another excellent game). There are some limitation with playing free but you can pay like 10 pieces of eight (or dollars) a month to get access to everything like being a ships captain and all the puzzles. But you can try all the puzzles on different days of the week for free. Plusses go for good pirate atmosphere and jolly music and sound effects. Every sea loving, booty stealing buccaneer should give it a go.

And here’s a vid about my favorite puzzle:

When I tested Settlers 7 – Paths to a Kingdom, I noticed Princess Zoé is sporting a rather attractive looking buccaneer type costume. Not sure what to call it exactly but I do like the style. Well, perhaps not the puffy sleeves but otherwise very sleek look. All the more reason to play her.

I figured I need to make myself actually do things I want to do so I need some way of forcing myself into action instead of slacking off like normally. As I learned from the book “No plot? No Problem!” I can do that by telling enough people about it so it’s harder to back out of it. The more I go on about the things, the harder it will be to just forget about them and take a nap. So I’m hoping writing about all this stuff and going through the trouble of this blog, I can actually get something extra done. Would be embarrassing to make a blog for all this stuff and then not do them. Like little swords pushing me down the plank. Ahoy!
